One Belt One Road: Australia's caution over China's global project

In an interview with ABC's Gerladine Doogue, Geoff Raby explains the purpose of 'One Belt One Road' for China, whether or not it marks China's foray into soft power, and US influence on Canberra's ambivalent response.


"China is not very clear about its strategic objectives, which easily leads to people being suspicious. However, there's quite a big influence over Canberra's security and strategic thinking from the USA and American think tanks, propounding concerns about China's values. Values change as society changes so it's not really a basis for sound policy."
